OUT-OF-CHARACTER-INFORMATION
Unit Name:
Maschinist
Credits: N/A
Consolidation Thread: N/A
Unit Description: Maschinists are radical tech priests, the only ones who truly understand their doomed inventions, they carry in various hellish engines and weapons, supporting their warlord's campaigns with waves of doomstone-powered machines. They are utilised as both the caretakers of Eshkin war engines and for the deployment of set machinery. Their role is both revered and feared: for while they are the only ones who can keep the Eshkin war machines from tearing themselves apart, they are also the ones who built these monstrosities in the first place. Often described as radical, heretical, and brilliant, Maschinists operate at the edge of technological sanity.

STRENGTHS
+
Being exposed to Doomstone for multiple generations of Maschinists has led to a natural immunity to radiation and poison

+ The large arsenal available to this unit makes them versatile and adaptable to a variety of situations, almost always carrying the right tool for any job

+ Maschinist squads can construct, repurpose, sabotage, or fix machines directly on the battlefield. Given access to battlefield wreckage, they scavenge and rebuild useful tools

WEAKNESSES
-
The weapons used by this unit require a constant source of Doomstone as either fuel or ammunition; running out of this resource leaves them vulnerable and exposed

- Eshkin technology is notorious for exploding, mutating or malfunctioning in the field at the most cruel of times

- Maschinists themselves are not warriors. Exposure to radiation and years of poor self-care render most physically weak. Without their machines or guards, they’re easy targets

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Maschinists first rose to prominence during the infamous Battle of Bamberg, a brutal siege in which their deep knowledge of Eshkin technology and sabotage tactics turned a conventional assault into a catastrophic collapse. Originally dismissed as unstable tinkerers, they proved their worth by disabling the city’s anti-siege weapons, seeding its foundations with volatile explosives, and sabotaging arcane wards with precision-engineered doomstone devices. While the bulk of the Eshkin army fought at the gates, it was the Maschinists who undermined Bamberg, literally and strategically, bringing down key structures from afar with Ratapults and other horrid inventions, sowing chaos through coordinated detonations and machinery sabotage. Though their methods caused heavy friendly casualties, the Maschinists earned a feared reputation as both innovators and executioners of siege warfare. Since then, they have become indispensable in any campaign requiring advanced wargear deployment, demolition, or battlefield engineering, though few trust them entirely, not even their own kind.
