Description: Rah System is situated in Kantiir Sector. Being relatively small, with only one inhabitable planet orbiting the star, Rah was always a rather peaceful system, with most activity originating from it being of trade or exploration in nature. After eons, Kathalla, the inhabited planet, grew in power, becoming the crown of a whole hyperlane that added to the hoarded wealth of the planet. Eventually, through local division and greed, Kathalla devolved in a long civil war that saw the planet nearly destroyed. Most of its environment was ruined, with the war-torn cities turning into fortresses and havens of underworld, while the oligarchic rulers, changing continuously by assassinations, resignations or insurgencies and coop, ship locals by the thousands to serve as military detachments; A blood-tithe owed to the Sith Empire, never to be repaid.

- Terrain:
The majority of Kathallan surface has been scarred to an irreversible degree by the long civil war. There are several high sharp rocky mountains protruding over otherwise flat plains. Though most of the forests and jungles originally existing on the planet were herbicided during the war, resulting to vast wastelands, turned into oceans of mud, as the soil no longer is able to soak the rainfall. Mountains are drained of dirt, becoming spikes of naked stone and sharp gorges. - Point of Interest:
- The Mud Wastes
The Mud Wastes is a large plain in the Northern hemisphere of Kathalla. Though once a large forest, due to the burning of most of it, rainwater ended up drenching in, creating a vast mud ocean that, after several years the Mud settled, creating a massive region of dead wastes, with no flora able to grow root. With each passing of the seasons, rains once again flooded the wastes and the mud swole once again. - Kardia
The "Root of All Evil", Kardia was the City-State that ignited the civil war on Kathalla after the referendum to join the Republic was passed. Kardia was the first of City-States to convert into a fortress-city, and the sole one to possess an Orbital Shipyard, later destroyed during the war. Kardia is renown for its three layers of concrete walls and durasteel reinforcements, with hundreds of turbolaser and particle cannon turrets and mazes of bunkerlines and external trenchlines stretching beyond the city's limits. After the war, Kardia's defensive networks were preserved, though most trenchlines were abandoned, gradually filled up by mud and growing vegitation. - Zaruuz
Being the largest of the Kathallan City-States, Zaruuz was once the capital of the Kathallan Monarchy, and later considered the capital of the planet, hosting the Parliament of Nobles. With heavy industries and millions of people to put in their work force, Zaruuz was one of the main players of the Civil War.
- The Mud Wastes
- Planet Name: Kathalla
- Star: Rah
Strengths
- Industrial Centre. The industrial capacity of Kathalla is capable of supporting entire Theatres of War with war supplies.
- Infinite Reservoir of Souls. The high population of Kathalla makes the planet a major point of troop production.
- Hordes of Veterans. With the main industry of Kathalla being the export of troops, the system is defended by a gargantuan number of mainly veteran soldiers.
Weaknesses
- Nonexistent Orbital Defence. Besides Long Range artillery turrets capable of engaging ships within atmosphere, Kathalla and by extension has no void defences to counter an invasion fleet.
- Divided and deprived. The resources of the system have been drained enough during the long civil war on Kathalla, resulting with scarse materials to feed the industry, with the locals relying on extrasolar trade to preserve their production rate.
- Susceptive to Unrest. Kathallan populace once voted for intergration to the Republic. The events following that, leading to the war created unbridgeable hatred between the different City States, with many civilian riots escalating due to the harsh laws and misery that defines Kathalla.
Historical Information
Kathalla is a planet in the center of the Kantiir Sector. Centuries ago, Kathalla became the very peak of a long trade route, leading to the Outer Rims. Without direct affiliation to any major factions, the local City-states ruling over Kathalla found great financial and merchant development for three centuries, due to the fact that Kantiir Sector served as the middle ground, connecting the Outer Rim with the Colonies and the Giju and Alesian trade routes, deeper to the Core.
Referendum and Separatist Movements
Sometime during the First Galactic War, the city-states of Kathalla were developped into a significant military power in the near-sector, able to fend off pirate incursions and withstand local conflicts, keeping violence away from Kathalla proper. The era of advance and prosperity, however, was bound to change, as soon as the Galactic Republic begun efforts of assimilating the Rah System into the Republic, as part of a long effort of expanding along the Kantiir Sector.
While many worlds of the sector were quick to intergrade themselves in the Republic, Kathalla faced difficulties. Be it the old rivalries re-emerging as the Galactic Republic expected Kathalla to be converted into a democratic planet state, effectivelly diminishing the powers of the city-states, several Kathallan houses did not look kindly to the new status-quo that was being "forced" upon their planet. After several meetings of the powers that be, on Kathalla, a referendum was agreed to determine the future of Kathalla. It was then when agents of the Sith Empire reached out to the city state of Kardia, offering Imperial support if they hijacked the process. Although the referendum was proven to be a crushing success, to the Republic, there were many a hickup, from false identities, to faulty voting, to outright blackmailing to influence the result, all such efforts were proven to be in vain, for the peoples of Kathalla had voted in support of their world becoming part of the Republic.
After the referendum's verdict, several city-states agreed to assemble a provisional parliament and organize planet-wide elections. Kardia, refused to participate, preaching for violation of Kathallan tradition and the outright theft of their own world for the Republic's losing war against the Sith Empire. Unable to influence the upcomming demise of their powers, the Kardian nobles staged a coop and quickly started drafting an army to enforce their will against the parliament. In the first weeks of tension, more and more city-states were faced with massive riots, usually ending bloody, military coop and resurgence of Separatist movements. The Parliamentarian camp, seeking to defuse the tensions, attempted a diplomatic intervention between the opposing sides, though to no avail. In standard year 7 BTC, the Parliamentarians and the Separatist factions both entered an arms race, as each fought over neutral city-states and foreign support. Everyone knew, Kathalla was in the brink of civil war.
For several years, Kathalla remained in a state of cold war, with Parliamentarians and Separatist camps enforcing contraddicting laws, provoking tarrif wars and lesser skirmish operations off-world, meant to taunt eachothers capacity to commit. Eventually, the spark came when the Imperial ambassadors on Kathalla offered the Empire's support, in the case Kathalla was attacked by the Galactic Republic. Though having ignited the whole tension, the Republic was unable to physically support the Parliamentarians, for Kathalla had yet to be accepted as a member state. The civil war had to end swiftly, or delay long enough for the Parliamentarian camp to split and join the Republic as a separate entity. Even so, the Republic had yet to recover from the Sacking of Coruscant, with many in the Senate arguing a military intervention in Kathalla would be catastrophic. The Sith, of course, capitalized on the crisis, vowing support to Kardia's Separatist movement and supplying them with ammunition and specialists to train the local militias in what everyone believed would be a lightning fast modern war.
Civil War
The spark would be the assassination of Kleathodinna Vormon, princess of Zaruuz and leader of the pro-republic political party, during her departure from orbit, to the Core Worlds. The ship was intercepted by a Kardian destroyer and shot down in the void. Within hours, the armies of Kardia mobilized, while the navy fired up its engines. Kardia's plan for a swift victory was a lightning strike against Zaruuz itself, to cut the head of the snake by arresting, or killing, the parliament's members at the time being in Zaruuz for a conference.
Alas, the inexperience of the Kathallan navies in planetary warfare was quickly demonstrated to horrifying results. The Parliamentarian and Separatist ships clashed over Zaruuz in low atmosphere, allowing the orbital defences of the city to engage. To the defenders' shock, their navy, inexperienced in fighting in low orbit, went in the way of the artillery, causing several incidents of friendly fire.

Although the Separatists were pushed back days before the Kardian army marched to the city, the Parliamentarian navy had been wounded enough to withdraw in orbit. The Kardian army moved in, while Zaruuz marched its own hosts out the walls for what both sides anticipated to be a glorious battle. Alas, while outnumbered, the Separatists had imperial trainning, from veterans of the old war. The localized commanders led their elements with enough precision to wreak chaos on the Zaruuzan army, forcing them to a retreatm and inflicting them tremendous casualties.
With the battle outside Zaruuz continuing, other Parliamentarian city states marched their own hosts against the Separatists. With neither commanders able to manage the unforseen numbers of troops under their command, each side made one strategic mistake after the other. The parliamentarians would expose their flanks, while the Separatists, identifying the openning, failed to move their armour across to capitalize. When the Separatists overextended, they were faced with artillery barrages from the walled cities, and forced back in retreat. Every passing week, the war distanced more and more from the cities themselves, and gradually fell in a deadlock in the vast terrain of the planet.
Forests were torched by the battles while carpet bombings levelled mountain sides and lesser settlements to dust. The initial "big push" offensives were decayed to myriad smaller operations, in an attempt to maintain a war of movement, though it was clear, that would not last...
With Kathalla being turned into a battleground, the merchant fleets eventually diverted to the longer routes around the territory, through the hazardous Outer Rim hyperlanes. This resulted with Kathallan City-States gradually descending into an abysmal financial and resource crisis, as any available materiel were driven quickly to the industries that fed the war machine. Assets to continue the war were scarce, and each loss of technology or infrastructure a near-inammendable wound to any of the city-states, technology started backward steps, with more and more primitive machines being used from physical bullet-based ammunition and lead, to tracked tank vehicles.
Both sides adopted innovative tactics from ingenious tunnel networks beneath entire valleys, to suicidal offensives, usually stalled by the coming of storms, avelances or floods due to the rapid destruction of the environment. Neither could break the deadlock. With no resources, yet near-infinite reserves of troops, the city-states dug in and engaged in a bloody trench war. Regardless any side's efforts to break the stalemate, for a full decade, more and more Kathallan blood was spilled for barely any gains...
In the last years of the conflict, Kardia turned to the undercover Imperial agents, who offered their support, this time, in exchange for fielty. Soon, a new offensive was initiated by Kardia, with the Sith Empire secretly supplying the City-state with military assets as well as personnel. The Galactic Republic was soon to interfeer, when Zaruuz city-state pleaded to the Senate with proof of the Empire's intervention to the otherwise neutral planetary affairs. The Republic provided reinforcements, allowing Zaruuz to hold against Kardia's onslaught. The answer of the Sith to this gesture was bound to be brutal.

A Dread Slayer fleet, allies of the Sith at the time, was assembled and combined with imperial navy ships transporting several hundred Imperial troops and Sith crusaders from Halcyon. The coalition launched several campaigns on Kathalla, always in support of Kardia, while an Imperial embassy was established. When the final onslaught of the Sith was materialized, Darth Ignis led a planet-wide assault against the remaining opposition, cementing the Sith rule over the planet. Kardia became the center of the Imperial-made government after the end of the hostilities, while Zaruuz was forced to surrender to Lord Byaal, after the city's army was destroyed in battle during Lord Byaal's siege that ended with the use of orbiting ship's bombardment agains Zaruuzian positions.
The situation after the second coming of the Sith Fleet became desperate. Parliamentarian and Republic forces struggled by the blockade enforced by @Darth Eosfor and the 6th Imperial Fleet, while the aftermath of Darth Ignis' invasion left the Kardian armies under strong imperial grip, and Sith forward commanders leading many units in the most bloody frontiers. Several attempts by the Republic Navy would challenge the Imperial blockade, but to no avail.
Eventually, Kathalla surrendered to the Sith rule...
Occupation and Blood Tithe
Kardia, the city-state that had kickstarted the nearly two decades of strife, finally was appointed capital of the planet, with their nobility elevated to pseudo-royalty. But none had any dellusions... The Sith had established a dictatorship on Kathalla, and they would not share their power. As soon as order was restored, several Kathallan regiments were shipped off-world to serve as Imperial Guard detachments, in the wars waged by the Sith in the rest of the Sector. Kardia, considering their peoples had suffered enough to achieve victory, refused to oblige to that request. Prime Minister Eltan Raek, the man who had led Kardia through most of the war as a veteran officer, and later as a political leader, declared that Kardia should heal, not seek further wounds.
A week after Eltan's statement in the planet's holonet, the prime minister was found dead in his office, by gas poisoning.
The planet would enter a three-year period of strife, with frequent riots across Kathalla, and isolated incidents of armed violence, from either despairing veterans, or insurgent organizations seeking to overthrow the dictatorship. Every time the situation went out of hand, the Sith simply replaced the Prime Minister with yet another opportunist, only to repeat the process few months later. Elections were banned, with the regime being changed and operated according to the bidding of the Sith Warlord that was on Kathalla, for as long as that was.
During the first months of the Third Galactic War, Imperial Kathallan Regiments were drafted by Darth Thea, for her campaign against Republic Territories in Kantiir Sector, many of which were never to return to Kathalla. Though the locals suffered, the continuous draining of troops gradually reduced the planet's capacity for serious insurrection.
Kathalla would pay Kardia's lust for power and black determination, by being bled dry by the Blood Tithe, up until the planet could provide troops no longer. The planet's loyalties to the Sith became blind, caring little of which Sith would be their master, for they had learned they had no say in it. The Republic, however, viewed by the Kathallans as the rotten state who abandoned them in their time of need, thus contributing to their final demise, would be a preached arch-enemy forever.
