Magic- The Prince is adept at magic everyone knows it. The problem is it’s shadow magic, a bad omen among the Fae.
Weaknesses: Young- Although he’s been blooded Leonidas lives in a world of immortals and longevity. In addition to the passions of youth this puts him at a disadvantage with people who have been playing the game for centuries.
Isolated- Leon’s position is precarious. The royal family has been killed, a republic has been formed. His allies amongst those in power is unreliable at best. Leon has few true friends and even less allies. If he means to survive he’ll have to play the game very carefully.
Biography: The Prince was born into the royal family of Filorentis. It’s hard for the to reconcile the man he knew to be a kind and caring father with the reputation he learned he had in later life. That of a strict and harsh ruler, who while his kingdom flourished under his rule it’s people were subject to harsh laws around caste, class and race intermixing. The King wasn’t always this way he was Sidhe and had lived for a thousand years, but over time what had started as necessity had grown into tyranny. So when he was assassinated it was almost expected, by everyone but the Prince the only one of his family to survive. He ran away fleeing the assassins and took shelter in the Sacred Forest. Even the assassins dare not break the taboo of no harm to befall one who seeks shelter at a sacred site. Though perhaps they feared the High Priestess magic more than an old story.
The High Priestess brokered a truce. None of the nobles trusted each other to rule. The Prince could be used to make one of them regent. The people who had feared the King but loved the Queen and the royal family were angry. They needed a solution.
The Prince already a shrewd student of politics offered through the High Priestess a change of system. There would no longer be a king the prince would remain a prince. A prince of the city not the royal family and Filorentis would become a republic. Several days of negotiations. The Prince sacrificed much so his greatest demand would be met. The assassins and the conspirators behind them would be executed. So the conspirators were conspired against by the other nobles. Fortunately the fools had signed a charter with their names on it proudly declaring an end to tyranny.
The Prince gathered the few loyalists who remained, the nobles who sought an advantage and backed by the people lead them against the conspirators in his first war. It was brief but bloody war. Leon was 14. Then with the High Priestess mediating Leonidas signed a decree, a declaration and a constitution. The nobles would be elected amongst themselves to the senate, with a Consul elected among them while the people would be able to elect Tribunes who would check the Senates power.
The Princes power would largely be symbolic, but privileged until he came of age when he would preside over the assembly, propose bills, pardons, have veto power, break ties and confirm appointments. Though the assembly if unanimous could out vote him. Leonidas bided his time doing what he could with charities, festivals and events. Knowing the nobles, the senate, the houses, the tribunes and the consuls thought him soft.
Now he has come of age and he plans to do great things.
