Biography: Atalanta’s greatest memory of her father was when she was scared the monsters would get her she ran crying to her fathers room. Dido had just left on a ship never to return, her big sister gone forever.
William Drake had held her till the sobbing stopped then he told her. Monsters were afraid of them not the other way around. He showed her a book on how to kill monsters. From then on she was hooked. All she wanted to do was kill monsters. When choosing day came and her father asked what she wanted to do she was more than ready.
Atalanta spent her teenage years with a Monster Hunter named Dale. Just Dale. Plain old Dale. He taught her the ins and outs, the tricks of the trade. Where to get the alchemical supplies for the potions they used, how to track all manner of beasts, set traps for them, snipe them from a distance or use the potions to gain an edge for an up close kill.
Atalanta learned of how society shunned monster hunters as ruffians, outcasts and scoundrels. She didn’t mind she had Dale and would return home for holidays with her father and her sisters. One day Dale was killed while she was away. The entire Guild headquarters had been attacked by a Grendel. Atalanta tracked it down and after a vicious battle killed it. The surviving Guildsmen named her Guild Master to honour her.
Upon her triumphant return home, her father told her the truth of who they were. Atalanta asked would she still get to kill monsters. Her father chuckled and assured her she would. Then she didn’t care. She swore the oaths required of her and went back out into the wilderness to hunt.
