Historical Information
A relic born of quiet craft and dark sorcery, the Veil of Silent Shadow is a shroud woven from the threads of mortal diligence and demonic power. Though its origins lie in acts of both kindness and desperation, its presence has haunted the world ever since, whispered of in the hidden places where light dares not tread.
Ellunestra was a woman of delicate hands and keen eyes, a seamstress in service to the royal family of Medicci. Known for her unparalleled skill, she was entrusted with the finest silks, the rarest velvets, and the most intricate embroidery. Yet despite her mastery, her name never left the palace walls, her work attributed to noble patrons rather than the hands that crafted them.
It was during a moonlit evening when Seraphina Ivory, a Snache woman of quiet elegance, came to her chamber in secrecy. Draped in a traveler’s cloak, her amber scales glinting beneath the candlelight, she asked for a veil—not for beauty, not for vanity, but for necessity. It had to be thin as mist, dark as a starless night, and light enough to move with the wind itself. A veil that would allow one to pass unseen when shadows stretched long.
Ellunestra did not ask why. Perhaps it was because Seraphina’s voice carried the weight of unspoken truths, or perhaps because the seamstress had spent her life doing the bidding of others. Whatever the reason, she accepted the task.
Over the course of a fortnight, she wove the veil from the finest gray silk, threading it with strands of shadow-dyed spider’s silk, ensuring it would neither tear nor fray. Though beautiful in its simplicity, it held no magic—only the care of its maker. When Seraphina returned, Ellunestra handed her the veil without question, and the Snache woman disappeared into the night.
With the veil in hand, Seraphina ventured into the forgotten places of the world, seeking one who could grant it power beyond mere cloth. She found Kelmor the Desecrator, a demon of necromantic prowess, hiding from the relentless forces of Darkholme. Once a feared practitioner of unholy arts, Kelmor had fallen from favor, his crimes against the great lords of darkness deemed unforgivable.
When Seraphina approached him with the veil, he nearly refused. Weaving spells into fabric was beneath him, the work of lesser sorcerers. But desperation breeds compromise, and Seraphina was no fool—she offered him sanctuary, a path unseen by those who hunted him. In exchange, he would grant the veil power.
Under the cold glow of a blood moon, Kelmor set to work. He called upon the whispers of the dead, binding their silence into the fabric. He wove shadows into its threads, ensuring that light would slip from its surface like water from stone. And he carved runes of forgotten tongues into its hem, cursing it with the essence of twilight itself.
When the ritual was done, the Veil of Silent Shadow became more than mere silk—it became absence itself. Those who wore it would pass unseen in the darkness, their presence slipping from the minds of those who beheld them. Footsteps softened, voices dulled, and even the sharpest eyes would struggle to find them.
