Dockside Diner – Fuel for the Forge
Rating: Rating:
(Kuat Certified) – Engineered for workers. Powered by heart.
Tucked beneath one of the support struts of Orbital Platform G-7 at the sprawling Kuat Shipyards, Dockside Diner is a culinary institution built for the shipwrights, engineers, and deckhands who power the Republic’s largest starship manufacturing complex. It’s a Kuat Certified eatery, recognized by the KCC for delivering consistent, high energy meals that keep the industrial heart of the Republic beating.
With its modular frame, carbon scored hull plates for walls, and seating welded from repurposed scaffolding, Dockside Diner looks like it could detach and fly off into orbit at any moment. Inside, it’s alive with the buzz of shift change chatter, the clatter of serving trays, and the unmistakable scent of engine grease and spiced meat.
Ambiance & Setting
There are no starched napkins or polished cutlery here. Orders are shouted across the counter, served in thermal proof trays, and eaten elbow to elbow with workers still in coveralls. Holo panels flash next shift arrival times, and a corner wall scrolls real time production metrics from Kuat Drive Yards. Yet, despite the utilitarian setting, the diner radiates warmth, familiarity, and an unshakable sense of camaraderie.
For many who work the shipyards, Dockside is more than a pit stop it’s a ritual, a refueling station for both body and spirit.
The Menu: Engineered for Endurance
Every item on Dockside’s menu is designed to fuel long hours, heavy labor, and high stress environments. Meals are high in protein, electrolytes, and slow burning carbs, often customizable to accommodate the diverse dietary needs of Kuat’s multispecies workforce.

Service & Experience
Dockside’s staff are all former workers or veterans of the yards, and they know the value of speed, accuracy, and a decent laugh. Orders are processed fast, and there’s always a “Force Healing Special” around shift turnovers discounted plates for crews clocking in or out.
Each week, a rotating “Coreworker’s Pick” spotlights a popular custom dish submitted by a regular. If selected, your name goes on the Shiftboard of Fame, etched in permacrete above the kitchen window.
Dockside Diner isn’t fancy. It isn’t meant to be. But in a galaxy at war, where labor is long and metal must fly, it stands as a beacon of consistency, nourishment, and solidarity.
If you’re working the yards or just passing through Dockside’s doors are always open, and the caf is always hot.
Meet the Chef: Marda “Griddle” Jex
Marda Jex, better known as “Griddle,” is the heart and heat behind Dockside Diner. A former hull welder with over 20 years in the Kuat shipyards, she swapped her torch for a skillet but kept the grit.
Having learned to cook in break rooms and crew messes, Marda built her menu for real workers, serving meals packed with flavor, fuel, and zero pretense. She knows what shift crews need to keep moving hot food, fast service, and no nonsense.
Her signature approach?
"Fast, hot, and hearty. Everything else can wait."
Marda’s no stranger to yelling your name when your tray’s ready or sneaking you an extra side if you’ve had a rough rotation. Under her lead, Dockside’s become a fixture of comfort in the grinding pace of the yards a little taste of home in orbit.
