Strengths
+ Hard to Wound. Reinforced and multy-layered, the Galleon is hard to break through, requiring projectiles or ramming weaponry of significant strength to deal damage to the hull.
+ Naval Arsenal. The heavy armaments and ability to carry troops onboard make the Galleon a floating fortress, to any who attempts to board, or approach with malicious intent.
Weaknesses
- Flammable. Her sails are fully exposed, and susceptive to fire. Losing her sails effectivelly immobilizes the ship. Furthermore, being entirely built out of wood, fire can be latched on any level of the decks, with terrifying effect if not extinguished in time.
- Hard to miss. Due to the height of the masts and the overall bulky design of the Galleon, it is impossibe to perform any stealth operations, making herself visible long before she closes in range of her guns.
Historical Information
The Sparnish had always engaged in piracy, as well as defended themselves from it, while naval expeditions to Pottaun were common task throughout the centuries. With the mountain ranges dividing Pottaun from the Sparnish inland, invading to Pottaun was oftentimes a bloody affair, as the Sparnish found themselves time and time again fighting in mountainous chokepoints, in which the Pottaunese chivalric hosts maintained the advantage.
To counter that obstacle, the Sparnish built fleets with which they raided the Pottaunese coasts. Although initially the two navies were rather similar in design and performance, the Sparnish eventually turned towards more Technologically advanced shipbuilding, which gradually established their navy and themselves as the supreme naval power of the Black Sea.
The Galleon is the most common ship design employed by the Sparnish in the Black Sea, being a ship that can serve as a troop carrier and warship, during invasions, and as a cargo ship, during campaigns, to support the war effort by preserving supply lines in the Black Sea.
