Strengths
+ Trainned Professionals. The Conquestadores are not levies. They are professional troops, which reflects to their organization and discipline.
+ Sharpshooters. The Conquestadores are specialized in ranged weaponry.
Weaknesses
- Vulnerable against Cavalry. Having no spears or other such weaponry, being faced by a cavalry charge could break their ranks almost immediately.
- Ranged Troops. Although they are equipped to stand in a hand-to-hand engagement, facing charges or being locked in hand-to-hand, puts them in a significant disadvantage.
Historical Information
The tradition of the Conquestadores begun during the Medieval Era, during which Sparnish mercenaries sough hire in large fleets who launched seaborne raids against the Hobgoblins Maorkisharra. After almost a hundred years, the practice became more and more famous in the Northern shores of Sparnia, with many a sellsword seeking work as a Conquestadore, in search of wealth and fame, gradually decaying the old chivalric ways that derived from the old Empire. Sparnish Conquestadores were mercenaries, yet always remained under a Sparnish noble's hire, too proud a Sparniard to accept foreign gold which they could, potentially, plunder anyhow. By the 9th Century, the tradition of the Conquestadores, having evolved to little more than a religiously-driven corsair rather than a loyal knight, had become the very symbol of Northern Sparnia.
More often than not, Conquestadores embark in long campaigns to distant lands, either by land or by sea, serving as ideal naval combat troops during ship-to-ship action. In the Battle of La Palas, the Sparnish forces besieged the city of Lisonna, at the time held by the Alurmanat Empire, supported by a large Sparnish Asturian fleet. When the Alurmanat navy arrived in force to relief the siege, the Sparnish Conquestadores boarded the Asturian ships and played a major part in the following naval confrontation in the Bay of Setuv, championing in boarding actions and barraging the Hobgoblin xebecs with musket volleys. The Alurmanat fleet eventually withdrew having suffered terrible losses, and the Sparnish captured the Las Palas province.
