The Confederate government sent troops and engineers west to begin construction on roads, workshops, and primary houses. However, word came back from the new front that a few construction workers had disappeared as well as a few soldiers, though there bodies had disappeared and weren’t found anywhere. Regular infantry were sent to discover the source.

The Confederate soldiers were quickly repelled and forced to retreat after being ambushed by wasp-like people in the thick, dense forests equipped with carbines and pistols. The Confederate soldiers reported being ambushed from all sides after stumbling upon acid baths.

The Confederate Government has as such declared a declaration of war against the wasp-like people named Wasserian by the Confederate government. Cannons and land tanks were rolled up to the Western front supported by regular infantry and regular artillery. Construction has begun on forward headquarters.

Food and equipment have been shipped forward as professional soldiers have been drawn up and sent to the frontline. Massive warships have also sailed up the side and deposited soldiers along the coast. A wide variety of commanders and officers have also been drawn out to organize the entire events.

However, not all has been good though. Three infantry regiments who explored further into the land came across heavy resistance and were forced to enter heavy melee combat. The three regiments returned heavily battered and with roughly a quarter of them wounded in a bit of acid.

The first regiment of the Confederate armed forces smoked a variety of mass produced tobacco rolls to halt the cold air that swept up off the ocean and filled the air with its salty smell. The first regiment were stuck on a hill with concrete premade blocks that served as their forts walls and stairs. The hill itself wasn’t high but it sat gravel and rocky ground put there fort at the height of the surrounding treeline.

These Wasserians were harder than originally thought despite their small size. There were even rumors that these Wasserians grew out of the ground and a belly full of twenty musket rounds and bayonets could only stop them as far as weighing them down with iron. The sun itself lightly glowed on the treeline in front of them.

“Commander! They’re coming up! They’re raising a white flag.” A private shouted, his heavy Tatchi accent emphasizing his words. The officer, a gray haired grenadier, ran over to the private and popped his head over the top. Four Wasserians had left the treeline and were coming up to them. He spotted something in the treeline and his gut kicked in.

He inched his rifle slowly onto the top of the concrete block wall and aimed at one of the trees, just a little left of the center of the tree. He had the other privates set up their rifles along the wall and aim at the tree line. He kept his eye on the approaching Wasserians who were roughly fifty feet away and slowly coming up the hill.

A loud bang filled the air as he pulled the trigger. The distant tree shuddered as the distant outline of a Wasserian fell out of the tree. The other privates followed his lead and opened up a volley on the trees with six privates putting a lead ball into the approaching Wasserians. The four Wasserians dropped the white flag and several round, black objects that everyone knew as grenades.

Private Thatcher gripped his axe and pistol as he hid in a hole under a tree in the forest, his pistol at the ready and his rifle strapped to his back. Outside in the dark forest he heard the Wasserian’s breathing distantly outside. He counted at least thirty breathing slowly, as the dark of the forest seeped into his bones. On the forest outside he could see a Wasserian soldier sleeping slumped up against a tree. The mandible of the Wasserian flexed as he snores in the dark and cold forest.

He slowly slid himself out of the hole under the tree and swung his axe into the lung's of the sleeping Wasserian. The Wasserian soldier winced and let out a wheeze of air. His eyes watered a little as he ran out of the forest back toward friendly defenses along the Ioata straight. He made his way through the forest for what felt like three hours.

He paused as he heard two Wasserians talking in their barbaric language standing at attention with their carbines. He spotted their dark yellow uniforms in the forest as they sat outside of a hole in the ground. He raised an eyebrow and slumped into the ground. He watched as two Wasserian soldiers emerged from the hole and relieved the two Wasserian soldiers on guard duty.

He cursed himself silently as these Wasserian soldiers built shit underground.

The forest was silent as private Tulsor slowly advanced through the underbrush. Dead Wasserians were scattered along the ground with some missing random limbs and others missing their heads. Half of the Wasserians were odd looking with at least half of them wearing brighter yellow uniforms and looking smaller. The smaller Wasserians were carrying carbines and pistols and seemed to wear thick, fluffy coats under their uniforms. He grumbled to himself as he paused as he spotted movement in the trees. He slowly trained his rifle on the tree.

“Friendly here.” A Snache soldier said as he peaked his head out of the tree before slithering down the tree trunk. The friendly snake like soldier joined him at his side wielding the beat up and dirty carbine which only had the firing mechanism and inside of the barrel clean.

“So, what else do you think happened here? It looks like there is something bigger.” He spoke as relaxed a bit. The scale covered friend shrugged in ignorance.

“I doubt it. Perhaps a civil war? I did find an abandoned dugout not to far from here. The Wasserians there are dead as well.”

“Aight. Noted. We should get back to base. Just curious. Confederate Investigation Agency?”

“Regrettably yes. Whatever these things call themselves we will conquer them soon enough.”

“Whatever you say, you slimy tart.” He joked. The snache laughed and slapped him on the back.

The tree line was too quiet and he didn’t like it as the engine of his landtank puffed out steam as the armored landship kicked up the dirt of the road. The deck of the landship had soldiers keeping an eye out wielding blunderbusses and rifles. They heard the Wasserian’s hid in the trees and planted explosives in the ground. He gritted his teeth as he eyed the deck hatches knowing they were closed from the inside.

The commander kept an eye out on the treeline with the cannons sticking out at the ready. Behind them rolled a second landship with their Cochellion commander at the helm. The landship came to a halt, the commander's hand raised. The commander clearly wanted to test out his new toys. Four deck mounted 9 pounder swivel guns manned by one man.

A loud crack rang out as the nine pounder cannon fired a round shot into the tree. To everyone’s surprise a Wasserian fell out of the tree alongside a nine pounder cannon, both crashing into the dirt forest floor with a thud. The sight sent chills up everyone’s spines and they rushed to the front as smoke billowed out four different trees further down the road. Grapeshot fell short and harmlessly hit the front of the landship.

“Haha. Is that all you.” A private shouted before stopping bluntly as blood dripped down his head and the soldier collapsed to the deck. He didn’t have time to care and everyone pulled out their rifles. The sound of thunder filled the forest as they traded iron with the Wasserians. The landship turned in place bringing its starboard cannons to bear.

A loud boom echoed through the forest, the landship shuddering, as a cannonball hit them in the side. Smoke billowed from a bush further down. Soon it was like a thunder cloud descended on them as the air in front of them was filled with smoke and cannon booms. The forest grew silent as the smoke faded, eyeing the dead and wounded Wasserians along the ditches.

“They were just waiting for us.” He thought to himself as he reloaded his gun.

Washer scratched at his side as the wind came down hard and the ground to a muddy ocean as his boots thumbed against the ground. The sound of the rain hitting the leaves of the trees filled the forest as he sat on guard behind the dirt wall that served as protection from musket balls. He dangled his feet over the edge of the entrance to their fort. He smiled a little as he looked at Wesher standing on guard, carbine in hand.

“So. How much longer do you think those white apes can't keep up this war against us? I heard they’re being pushed back by the fort at Wateria.” He spoke up, rubbing his cheek a little.

“Grasda. They can’t say anything honest. Now stand up and help me keep an eye out for those ram folk.” Wesher spoke, reprimanding him.

“I still don’t understand why you are scared of those heavy coats. They’re no match against us.”

“I saw one of them fight five of us off and come out on top. I am terrified of them because when they’re soaked in blood and guts and they’re charging you it tends to leave an impression.” Wesher spoke as he shuddered. What he said killed the moon and they continued guard duty on in silence.

The sound of lightning sounded through the valley as the cloud of smoke billowed down the side. Wasserians lay in the bottom of the valley returning fire from a trench line in the ground below. Confederate soldiers of the 10th regiment had taken up trench like positions on the top of the ridge. Short barreled cannons boomed from the fortified positions dug into the ground fired round shot into the dug in Wasserians.

Wasserians and Confederate soldiers dropped as lead balls found their unlucky fleshy targets. Bullets were traded between the two brutal soldiers with cannon balls taking out limbs. Cordon ducked as a cannonball flew over head and sent a shower of dirt onto his head. He inched his rifle out of cover and returned fire with his gun.

The smoke was so thick that he couldn’t see where he was shooting or even if he had hit a Wasserian. He quickly reloaded his rifle as more bullets whizzed over head in a flurry of lead. He gripped the rifle and nervously started ramming the ball down the barrel using the ramrod as his comrades also fired at the dug in Wasserians. Musket balls flew over the top of the dirt wall as he sucked in air. A few Wasserians rushed up the hill towards them, bayonets fixed. The charging Wasserians were hit balls and joined there dead comrades.
