Forum Rules
- No Underaged characters are allowed.
- No imagery of pornography, gore, or otherwise illegal content. In the case any is used as either avatars, covers, or in any way in stead of art within AoD, will result in immediate ban.
- Character Accounts are expected to represent the characters they are named after.
- Always bare in mind, playing an invincible god-like being, an overpowered creature or such concepts may find little interest from other writers to interact with. Nobody likes a godmode. Even if playing a rather strong entity or individual, consider spicing things up with Strengths/Weaknesses, to add balance.
- Smut/ERP. Although it can be argued that smut or erotic roleplay is a nearly inseparable part of any Roleplaying experience, AoD is not a place for explicit scenery of such sort. It is strongly advised to use fade-to-black, or transport roleplay that engages such themes, in private channels such as Discord.
- Mass destruction technology is only attainable through the use of certain mechanics, and cannot be claimed by individual characters upon creation.
- Possession, Mind Control, or such elements are only acceptable after explicit consent of the player writing the targeted Player Character. The same applies in the case of torture, of any kind.
- A Player cannot be forced in any situation that he or she does not feel comfortable with.
- Character Death is the sole decision of the Writer.
- In regards to OOC behavior, Bullying, discrimination or politically/religious driven commentary or conversations are not allowed in any space of AoD, be it Discord, or the Site itself. Feel free to take such urges to pms, but this is a writing forum, not a place to start scenes of IRL issues.
- The Moderation-Team reserves the right to expand, edit and add rules at their discretion.
- We will announce major rule changes in advance if possible to offer some transparency and preparation time.
Character Creation Rules
- Banned Characters: Primarchs, Daemon Primarchs, Chaos Gods, C'Tan, Perpetuals, High Lords of Terra, Named Lore Characters, Men of Iron, Krorks, Ancients, Any obsolete/retconned lore (e.g. Children of the Emperor)
- Restricted Characters: Chapter Masters/Warband Leaders, Beta and above level Psykers, Imperial Assassins, Greater Daemons, Living Saints, Daemon Princes, Princeps, Chaos/Imperial Knights, Daemonhosts, Adeptus Custodes
- Especially for human/humanoid/transhuman factions, 10.000 year old characters are exceedingly rare and therefore are only valid as background or fluff characters for narrative.
- Lore-accuracy and theme. While the forum is encouraging to find and engage in your own stories, create lore, places and characters - the stories still take place within the Warhammer 40.000 universe, theme and setting.
- No Crossovers, like with Star Wars, Halo, Helldivers, Mass Effect etc
- No Lore-breaking, like peaceful Orks, female Astartes, fallen Custodes, Grey Knights or Sisters of Silence, individual sentience or personalities of Tyranids
- We will add to the list on the go, please be aware and reserve the right to deny or ban something that has already been active if it should violate any of this during RP.
- No creating or claiming of weapons, armor, artifacts etc that are 'named' (like the Emperor's Sword, Vulkan's Artifacts, Drach'nyen etc). They are not accessible to PCs.
- The usage of planet destroying weapons is restricted to Exterminatus-labelled threads and requires prior admin approval.
- While Warhammer 40.000 is known for its grimdark setting in which certain excesses are excessively displayed - we do not permit any form of smut, dirty, excessively gore, torture porn, explicit sexual content in regards to Slaanesh, Nurgle, Drukhari and the likes.
Restricted Characters
Chapter Masters/Chaos Lords/Leader-Archetypes- All kinds of leaders of (semi)-independent entities count into this category, like Chapter Masters, Warband Leaders, Lord Generals, Archons, Autarchs, Warbosses, Magos etc.
- In the sense of that we want to prevent everyone showing up with an own Galaxy-changing contingent of followers, we limit these characters. They require prior Moderator approval.
- To be approved the character has to have and must be a part of:
- 1. a Strike Force of the same Chapter, Warband, Whaagh! etc.
- 2. part of a Crusade
- Each writer may only write one of these per thread.
- They require Moderator approval to be roleplayed.
- Each writer may only write one of these per thread.
- They cannot exist in NPC units.
- Princeps are not available to general roleplay and require special conditions to be met to be written.
- Each Princeps character requires Moderator approval.
- They cannot exist in NPC units.
- To roleplay a Princeps commanding a Titan, the writer must be part of a Crusade that is in control of a Forge World.
- No access to: Imperator-class, any Psi-Titan-class
- Titans can only appear in Only War Threads controlled by PCs. Parts of Titans can be freely used in any threads.
- Princeps can dismount and be in any kind of thread.
Faction Rules
- Main Factions: Imperium of Mankind, Forces of Chaos, Aeldari, Drukhari, Orks, Tyranids, Tau Empire, Necrons, Genestealer Cults, Leagues of Votann
- Crusade: Player factions (within the above mentioned main factions) that contain four or more unique writer accounts.
- Strike Force: Player factions that contain between 1 and 3 unique writer accounts. Only submitted Strike Forces can participate in Only War and become Crusades.
- Homebrew Chapter/Warband: Every player can and is encouraged to create their own Space Marine Chapter or Chaos Warband, Craftworld etc, but this follows certain limitations:
- Codex Compliance: A homebrew chapter does not have to follow the organisation of a Codex Compliant Chapter. A Warband can follow any kind of organisation.
- Numbers: No Warband or Chapter can exceed the maximum number of 1.000 Astartes (including Scouts or Initiates, Possessed, Chosen etc).
- Player Limit: Only a Crusade can access the full might of an entire Chapter, otherwise the players are limited to a Company-sized unit. This requires the entire Crusade (4 writers+) to write characters from that Chapter.
- Chapter Master/Daemonprince/Warp Juiced: One writer has to be nominated the Chapter Master or leader of the Warband. This character can ascend to become a Daemonprine or receive blessings from the Warp.
- Please note that since Space Marines are the posterboys of 40k, we use them as point of orientation. This is to be adapted to the individual factions and their rough equivalent. Please ask a mod if you are unsure what an equivalent would be.
- Homebrew Chapter/Warband: Every player can and is encouraged to create their own Space Marine Chapter or Chaos Warband, Craftworld etc, but this follows certain limitations:
- Individual: Every unique and single writer on the site.
Planetary Rules
- Forge Worlds
- Controlling a Forge World allows the fielding of Superheavy Equipment (like Baneblades), Battleship-sized warships and permits the Strike Force or Crusade to have a single character per writer account become a Princeps character.
- Fortress Worlds
- A Fortress World controls all worlds directly connected to it and needs to be captured before control over any of the worlds can be achieved by a hostile faction.
- Capital Worlds
- A Capital World acts similarly to a Fortress or Forge World, the faction has to declare upon creation what it shall be.
